How to Build a Greenhouse Delivered in Pieces
![]() |
No matter where you purchased your greenhouse from, it is likely it will arrive at your home in pieces. It doesn't matter whether you order it on the Internet, buy it from a garden center or purchase each component separately. You'll have to start off with a pile of pieces that can get rather overwhelming for the novice. Your building plans can be of great assistance. Refer to the building plans to ensure you've got all the necessary parts, then separate them by type into orderly piles. Now when you need to find a specific part you can do so easily.
Speaking of the plans, read them at least once all the way through before starting to build. Go slowly and follow each step to the letter. If you do this, you will be able to assemble a greenhouse from a bunch of parts. Of course, choosing a simpler style greenhouse doesn't hurt, either. For example, an arched hoop greenhouse, also commonly called a hoophouse, is a cinch to build and can be constructed in an hour or two. If the idea of doing much construction is not appealing to you, this might be the ideal type of greenhouse for you.
The majority of greenhouse plans call for the frame to be erected first, then the reinforcements, then the panels or sheeting. Of course, plans may vary depending on the type of greenhouse. As we mentioned before, you'll need the right supplies for building a greenhouse. This includes basic tools such as a hammer, screwdriver and drill, for starters. Your plans should explain what kind of tools you need to do the job. It might be a good idea to recruit someone to help you with the construction, depending on the size of your greenhouse.
Another resource that can help you learn how to build a greenhouse delivered in pieces is the Internet. There are free and downloadable plans available that you can print and refer to. On gardening forums you can talk to other gardeners who have built greenhouses themselves and can offer their advice. You'll also find plenty of helpful books on the subject of building a greenhouse step by step. Two examples include Ortho's All About Greenhouses and How to Build Greenhouses, Shelters and Sheds by Thomas H. Jones.
